Mental Health in 2020

Brave Care is excited to announce Parental Guidance: Mental Health in 2020, a 12-week training and support class for parents in our community.

What

Starting in mid-October, Brave Care will be hosting 12 weekly 90 minute online Zoom classes with Katrina Thatcher. Katrina was hand selected by Dr. Corey Fish, and is a Registered LPC Intern. We couldn't be more excited to offer these classes to our community! Classes are limited to 6 participants per class.

In this Parenting Training and Support group) you will learn skills and strategies to help you:

  • Juggle the added stress of COVID-19, remote work, parenting, and school
  • Communicate more effectively with your child 
  • Feel more in control as a parent 
  • Understand your child‛s emotional needs 
  • Develop your child‛s self-control and self-esteem 
  • Effectively discipline & limit inappropriate behavior 
  • You’ll get support from and share experiences with other parents navigating these challenging times.

When

We offer 3 different classes depending on your child's age: 15 months-4 years, 4-9 years and 9-13 years old. Select the class that best fits your needs.

15 months - 4 years:
Every Wednesday, starting Oct 21 from 10:30am-12pm every week for 12 weeks
Register for 15 months - 4 years class

4 years - 9 years:
Every Wednesday, starting Oct 21 from 2:30pm-4pm every week for 12 weeks
Register for 4 years - 9 years class

9 years - 13 years:
Every Tuesday, starting Oct 20 from 7:00pm-8:30pm every week for 12 weeks
Register for 9 years - 13 years class

Cost

The cost for the entire 12-week course is $300, that's a cost of just $25 per class! The fee is per parent or participant, not per child. Each parent or participant must register independently.

Next Steps

After registration, you’ll schedule a a short 15-20 minute survey with Katrina to make sure these sessions will be a good fit for you and your child. You’ll then receive a Docusign request to provide your consent for group participation. Once you've met with Katrina, and completed your Docusign, you will then receive an email with a password protected Zoom link that will be unique to your group. We ask that you do not share this link with others.

About Katrina Thatcher

I am currently owner/counselor at Tender Fierce Creatures Play Therapy and Counseling where I offer play therapy, parenting support, and individual adult counseling. I received my Master’s degree in Couple, Marriage and Family Counseling from Portland State University. I have also received special training in Child-centered Play Therapy (CCPT), Child-parent Relationship Training (CPRT),child development, family play therapy approaches, polyvagal theory and play therapy, play therapy with sensory and neurodiverse populations, and with the Mindful Experiential Therapy Approaches (M.E.T.A.) Clinic. I am currently a registered intern with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT) and I am supervised by Dr. Kimberly Jayne, PhD, LPC, RPT-S, CCPT-S.

I adore living in Portland. Having grown up in the Northwest, cloudy skies, mountains, and evergreens are the comforts home. On my days off, I head to the ocean or the mountains, or cozy up with a book.
